Establishing a Clery Compliance Team

Colleges and universities are expected to develop mechanisms to address the comprehensive requirements outlined in the Clery Act, including: 

• collecting and disclosing crime statistics, 
• disseminating policy summaries, 
• developing and executing prevention programs, 
• providing assistance to victims, and more. 

This work is too substantial to be undertaken by a single individual. An institution’s administrative capability to adhere to Clery Act requirements is consistently evaluated by the Department of Education through Clery Act program reviews. It would be highly beneficial for institutions to establish an efficient Clery compliance team of staff from various departments who collaborate to fulfill all the essential requirements. 

This webinar will share best practices for establishing and utilizing a Clery compliance team and will share information from our Clery Compliance Team Toolkit.

During this webinar we will:

• Describe the importance of establishing and utilizing a multidisciplinary team for meeting Clery Act requirements
• Identify key campus partners to include on your institution’s Clery compliance team
• Identify necessary tasks that can be completed by an institution’s Clery compliance team
• Review the Clery Compliance Toolkit as a beneficial resource for establishing and effectively utilizing a Clery compliance team

In our 2024 webinar series, we will examine several requirements of the Clery Act and delve into best practices for effectively addressing these areas. Institutions of higher education are responsible for adhering to the Clery Act, which aims to enhance campus safety and increase transparency regarding campus crime statistics.

While the Clery Act's statutes and regulations outline the necessary actions for campus administrators, they may not always offer specific guidance on implementation. Join us as we dive deeper into policy and provide you with strategies for putting these requirements into practice.
