
Clery Act Training Seminars
Clery Center’s Clery Act Training Seminars (CATS) give higher education professionals a unique chance to bridge the gap between the requirements of the Clery Act and their campus's distinct needs. By offering a specialized curriculum that addresses both the letter and spirit of the law, our Clery Act Training Seminars equip participants with the concrete tools and strategies necessary to create an actionable Clery compliance plan that may be implemented right away or over time. Subjects covered in CATS trainings include:
- Identifying and training campus security authorities (CSAs)
- Identifying Clery geography
- Counting & classifying Clery Act crimes
- Composing an institution’s annual security report (ASR)
- Designing & implementing prevention and response efforts for dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
- Conducting campus disciplinary procedures for student or employee cases of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
- Evaluating the need for and issuing timely warnings or emergency notifications
- Developing, revising, or implementing policy and procedures to address any of the above
While anyone with an interest or desire in learning more about the totality of the Clery Act is welcome at all Clery Center trainings, our CATS curriculum is specifically designed for those with responsibility for oversight of Clery Act compliance and/or implementing its requirements.
CATS is offered in three modalities: In-person CATS, Virtual, CATS, and Self-paced CATS. Learn more about each modality below!

In-Person CATS
Our in-person Clery Act Training Seminar (CATS) offers higher education professionals the chance to connect face-to-face with Clery experts and peers for a comprehensive review of the Clery Act. You’ll learn how to apply requirements in ways that meet your campus’ unique needs. Interactive, engaging, and practical, CATS equips participants with the tools and strategies to strengthen compliance practices back on campus. CATS will teach participants about:
- Stop Campus Hazing Act requirements including:
- Counting & classifying hazing as a Clery Act crime statistic
- Developing policies and procedures for reporting and investigating hazing incidents and offering prevention programs to educate about and prevent the occurrence of hazing
- Creating a Campus Hazing Transparency Report (CHTR) sharing information about recognized student organizations found responsible for hazing
- Identifying and training campus security authorities (CSAs)
- Identifying Clery geography
- Counting & classifying Clery Act crimes
- Implementing prevention programs and response efforts for dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking (DVSAS)
- Conducting campus disciplinary procedures for student or employee incidents of (DVSAS) that also address Title IX requirements
- Evaluating the need for and issuing timely warnings or emergency notifications
- Composing an institution’s annual security report (ASR)
- Developing, revising, or implementing policy and procedures to address any of the above
Through case studies, group activities, and facilitated dialogue, you’ll practice applying concepts while building connections with peers and instructors. A provided Workbook helps you capture notes, checklists, and strategies to implement back on campus.

Virtual CATS
Our Virtual Clery Act Training Seminar (VCATS) combines live, online instruction with interactive elements to deliver Clery Center’s most comprehensive training without the need for travel. Over four live sessions, participants engage in real-time discussions, breakout groups, case study analysis, and online resources.
You’ll network with peers, consult directly with instructors (during live sessions and privately during virtual office hours), and apply what you learn through interactive activities. A provided Workbook helps you document strategies and checklists to carry forward in your daily work.

Self-paced CATS
Our Self-Paced Clery Act Training Seminar (CATS) provides engaging, flexible learning you can complete on your own schedule. Each module illuminates common challenges and promising practices while guiding your future compliance planning. CATS will teach participants about:
- Identifying and training campus security authorities (CSAs)
- Identifying Clery geography
- Counting & classifying Clery Act crimes
- Implementing prevention programs and response efforts for dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
- Conducting campus disciplinary procedures for student or employee incidents of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking that also address Title IX requirements
- Evaluating the need for and issuing timely warnings or emergency notifications
- Composing an institution’s annual security report (ASR)
